"NASA powers up Roman Space Telescope's 300-megapixel camera" — Science Daily (all) · Science & Medicine
NASA has powered on the (WFI), the 300- at the heart of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. This is a major milestone after the telescope's launch in August 2026: the camera is now operational and will soon begin surveying vast stretches of the sky, capturing data on dark energy, exoplanets, and galaxy evolution.
The claim is solid, grounded in NASA's own announcement (a Sept 15, 2026 blog post from the Roman mission team). The Science Daily article and other outlets are secondary but faithfully report the agency's release; the event itself is confirmed by multiple independent sources including NASA, Space.com, and BBC.
Genuinely new: the camera activation occurred in September 2026 and is being reported now, within days of the event.
