Two people, a mother and her adult daughter, were killed in a bear attack in British Columbia, Canada, and authorities suspect multiple bears may have been involved.

What it means

A mother and her adult daughter were killed by grizzly bears on a trail near Bella Coola, British Columbia. Wildlife conservation officers suspect more than one grizzly was involved, based on the scene evidence. The area had seen a fatal grizzly attack on schoolchildren less than a year earlier, heightening public concern.

Accuracy & sourcesGrounded

The claim is well-supported by multiple mainstream news outlets (CTV, BBC, CNN, The Guardian) all citing the BC Conservation Officer Service. The underlying primary source is the official statement from conservation officers, making the core fact highly reliable even though the CTV article itself is secondary reporting.

How new

The attack was first reported on November 4, 2026, and is genuinely new.
