"Early prenatal cell-free DNA methylation landscape informs epigenetic purification of fetal genome" — bioRxiv (Genomics) · Science & Medicine
This bioRxiv preprint maps the landscape of early-pregnancy cell-free DNA (cfDNA) of fetal origin, using fetal cfDNA (median purity 94.7%) obtained from leftover culture media of 30 chorionic villus biopsies. The authors then use this landscape for ' of the fetal genome' — computationally separating fetal from maternal DNA signals in mixed cfDNA samples, which matters for non-invasive prenatal testing. In plain terms, it creates a fetal-specific methylation reference so the fetal genome can be pulled out cleanly from a blood sample that mostly contains maternal DNA.
This is the authors' own primary-source preprint on bioRxiv, so the claim reflects exactly what the paper reports, but it has not yet been through peer review. The concrete details (n=30, median fetal cfDNA purity 94.7%) come from the preprint's description, and the practical performance of the purification method in real maternal blood samples is still preliminary until independent validation.
Genuinely new preprint: posted with the bioRxiv ID 2026.10.20.760549 and picked up in the 2026-10-26 publication window; no recirculation year is indicated.
