"Neoadjuvant nivolumab with visugromab in muscle-invasive bladder cancer shows activity" — Nature Medicine · Science & Medicine
This is a report on the GDFather-NEO phase 2a trial, which tested the combination of (a PD-1 checkpoint inhibitor) and (an antibody that blocks GDF-15, a protein that suppresses immune responses) as therapy (given before surgery) in patients with who are ineligible for or refuse cisplatin-based chemotherapy. The trial found that adding visugromab to nivolumab significantly increased the pathological complete response rate (33.3% vs. a lower rate with nivolumab alone), indicating enhanced anti-tumor activity. The results were published in Nature Medicine and presented at ESMO 2026.
The claim is based on a peer-reviewed primary publication in Nature Medicine, a reputable journal. The data come from a blinded phase 2a trial conducted by CatalYm, the developer of visugromab, and the results were also presented at a major oncology conference (ESMO 2026). The reported response rates are consistent across multiple secondary sources, so the claim is well-supported.
The Nature Medicine article was published on October 24, 2026, making this genuinely new research.
