"Panagram: ultrafast alignment-free pangenome analysis framework" — bioRxiv (Genomics) · Science & Medicine
Panagram is a new computational framework for analyzing pangenomes — the full pool of genetic sequences across individuals of a species — without first aligning everything to a single . The bioRxiv preprint (2026.10.21.760756) presents it as ultrafast and , and it has already been applied to uncover architectures linked to trait variation in plants and animals, including identifying deletions in a flowering-time gene across a 48-sample panel. In plain terms, it lets researchers compare many genomes quickly to spot structural variation that reference-based methods tend to miss.
This is the authors' own preprint, so it is the primary source for the tool's existence and design; however, claims like 'ultrafast' are the authors' characterization and have not yet been peer-reviewed. Independent conference abstracts and a published study already cite and use Panagram, which supports that it is a real, working framework.
Genuinely new: the preprint was posted on bioRxiv on 22 October 2026.
