"fastGxE detects genotype–environment interactions at biobank scale" — Nature Genetics · Science & Medicine
is a new statistical method, introduced in a Nature Genetics paper, for running genome-wide scans of (GxE) efficiently on large biobank datasets. It tests each genetic variant against environmental factors while accounting for polygenic effects and polygenic interaction effects, and the paper applies it to 99 UK Biobank traits, reporting 25 candidate GxE loci, 16 of which had not previously been linked in this way. The practical upshot is a computationally tractable tool for finding places where the effect of DNA on a trait depends on the environment.
The claim is a direct summary of the primary source: the peer-reviewed Nature Genetics paper, so it is solid as a description of what the authors report. Independent replication would be needed to know how far the findings generalize beyond the UK Biobank traits analyzed.
The paper was published on 22 October 2026, so this is newly published primary research rather than resurfaced older material.
