"Disrupted chromatin architecture blocks B lymphopoiesis in Down syndrome" — bioRxiv (Genomics) · Science & Medicine
This study from a preprint investigates how the extra copy of chromosome 21 in disrupts the three-dimensional organization of chromatin (DNA packaging) in blood stem cells. This architectural disruption specifically blocks the normal development of B lymphocytes (), which may explain immune deficits and increased leukemia risk in Down syndrome.
The claim comes directly from the preprint on bioRxiv, the primary source. As it has not yet undergone peer review, the findings should be considered preliminary, but the reporting is at the source level.
This is a new preprint, with no indication of older underlying material; it represents genuinely new research findings.
