"DeepSeek Harness Desktop for macOS and Windows" — Hacker News (best) · AI & Technology
DeepSeek has released an official desktop application for its open-source agentic framework ',' now available for macOS (Apple Silicon) and Windows (64-bit). The app bundles its own runtime and supports a plugin architecture, allowing users to run DeepSeek's AI agents locally as desktop software, with features like Creator Mode and scheduled tasks. This marks the transition of DeepSeek Harness from a developer CLI tool or web interface to a standalone desktop consumer product.
The claim is well-supported by multiple primary and secondary sources: the official DeepSeek Harness website and dedicated download page confirm the software's existence and specifications, while GitHub shows active builds and release notes. The reporting is close to the primary source (DeepSeek's own site and GitHub repository), though the headline does not specify that the macOS version is not (a security caveat noted in the GitHub readme) — this omission slightly overstates the polish.
Genuinely new: the desktop app appears to have been released within the past week (August 2026), with the first download links and coverage emerging 1–5 days ago.
